Board of Directors

_BOARD OF DIRECTORS. Our  board is made up of community leaders, people passionate about theater  and the arts and people who have a great deal of influence within their communities. They bring experience, expertise passion, contacts and a strong desire to see and help Mercia Entertainment succeed.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Strategic: Participate in the development of overall goals and objectives for Mercia Entertainment and review the programs. May provide input into the annual performance review of artistic director. Available to advise as necessary
  2. Fundraising: With all other Board members, be responsible for seeing that funds are raised to support the programs of Mercia Entertainment, including participating in fundraising events, etc.
  3. Public Relations: Aid in the growth of Mercia Entertainment membership and community support. Plan for the expansion of community awareness and provide feedback on community opinions
Personal Commitment :
  • Use personal influence within network and/or community to help achieve Mercia Entertainment's goals/vision
  • Participate in all events sponsored by Mercia Entertainment
  • Attend all shows (preferably on opening night in order to attend the opening night receptions)
  • Attend additional functions, as they come up
Fundraising Commitment : Maximum participation in soliciting community gifts in the following areas: annual fund, special events, major gifts, planned giving and capital campaign

Development Commitment : To assist in identifying and recruiting potential donors and volunteers by making contacts (either personal, by phone or written)

Financial Commitment : Each  Board member is encouraged to make or get an annual gift of at least $500

Attendance Commitment : Must attend at least 2 board meetings. May attend as many meetings as desired.

Advisory Board

_ADVISORY Board Members: In addition to the board of directors, Mercia Entertainment has an advisory board. This advisory board is made up of community leaders, people passionate about theatre and the arts and people who have a great deal of influence within their communities. Managing Director

MANAGING DIRECTOR: The Associate Managing Director is a vital member of the Mercia Entertainment  staff with the primary goal of ensuring the integrity of the company through maintaining the stability of infrastructure. Working with the Managing Director, you will be responsible for the administration of the business aspects of Mercia Entertainment. To this end, your responsibilities will include:

  • Negotiating contracts related to production rights, rental agreements, and staffing.
  • Developing and managing a marketing and public relations program to maximize attendance and expand our audience.
  • Coordinating press releases to be sent to all appropriate local media outlets.
  • Forging and maintaining relationships with entertainment writers and editors in a position to offer reviews and feature coverage of Mercia Entertainment .
  • Fielding requests for information from press, and coordinating interviews with artistic director, directors, and cast, as needed.
  • Developing production budgets with the Executive Staff.
  • Coordinating and supervising staff and volunteers.
  • Representing Mercia Entertainment  at industry functions and in the community.
You must be well organized, punctual, have good communication skills and be good at leading others. Previous experience in more than one area of arts administration, including management, booking, marketing, development, or grant writing is recommended, but not a must. You should be self-motivated, innovative, and enjoy working in a creative, team environment. You should possess the ability to work with a wide variety people and be able to adapt to an ever changing environment. This is a great opportunity to gain practical experience in theatre administration.

This position reports to the Board of Directors.

Education Director

Mercia Entertainment seeks a Director of Education to create and build an education program for our thriving non-profit. Our main educational attraction are the Spontaneous Shakespeare Players who have 60-90 minute shows that can be (and have been) performed in schools. Please see SpontaneousShakespeare.org for more information. We need someone who can book the shows, interact with school administration and sell the shows as related to student curriculum.  Past experience a must, but definitely willing to work with someone newer to the field with the passion and drive to create a spectacular educational program. In addition, we'd love to create classes in Shakespeare, monologues and scene study and public speaking for both children and adults.

Public Relations Manager

PUBLIC RELATIONS MANAGER: The primary goal of the Mercia Entertainment  Public Relations Manager is to expand the audience of the company. To this end, your responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating press releases to be sent and/or faxed to all appropriate local outlets, especially print and online media (radio and TV and other outlets may also be explored).
  • Forging and maintaining relationships with entertainment writers and editors in a position to offer reviews and feature coverage of Mercia Entertainment .
  • Inviting press to "press nights" and gala functions.
  • Fielding requests for information from press, and coordinate interviews with artistic director, directors, and cast, as needed.
  • Coordinating with the Mercia Entertainment Webmaster to post all publicity materials on the website.
  • Supervising photo shoots for all Mercia Entertainment  productions and sending photos out for publication or using them in-house for poster designs and the website.
  • Submitting a budget, work within it, and keep records and receipts of expenses.
This position reports to the Managing Director.
